RQSHA/CRISM-ICRAS QM funding competition – Winter 2016-2017

Researchers, knowledge users and other RQSHA and/or CRISM-ICRAS QMN members are invited to submit a project proposal that matches priorities common to both networks, namely the risks associated with substance use and suicide, or associated conditions, such as mood disorders). By contributing to the generation of new evidence in these fields, RQSHA and CRISM QMN wish to support their members in the development of research projects and activities aimed at improving prevention or treatment practices for people affected by this dual problem.

Please note that applications must be submitted in French. The application deadline is February 24, 2017.

Government of Canada announces a new comprehensive drug strategy and legislative changes

On December 12, 2016, the Honourable Jane Philpott, Minister of Health, announced the new Canadian Drugs and Substances Strategy (CDSS). The CDSS will replace the existing National Anti-Drug Strategy with a more balanced approach, restoring harm reduction as a core pillar of Canada’s drug policy alongside prevention, treatment and enforcement, and supporting all pillars with a strong evidence base.

13 Canadians hospitalized each day for opioid poisoning

Canada is faced with a public health crisis due to harms associated with opioids. A new report by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) and the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA) now quantifies their impact on our health systems.
